Islanders head coach Barry Trotz shared his opinion about the game of Toronto forward Auston Matthews and Washington forward Alexander Ovechkin.
“When Auston first started showing himself, I said he reminded me of a young Mario Lemieux. He operates on a large radius, he has a wide possession of the puck. Oston, from what I’ve seen on TV and live, skillfully moves the puck along his body and changes the angle of movement. He literally wriggles. This is probably the biggest difference I see between them.
Ovechkin is by far the best sniper of all generations. Maybe Auston is next. If he continues to score at this rate, it won’t take him long. But Ovi for me personally is the most accurate sniper you have ever seen, ”the official NHL website quoted Trotz as saying.
This season, Ovechkin has played 72 matches in which he scored 85 (46 + 39) points. Matthews has 101 (58+43) points in 69 games of the season.
