An appeal against the sentence handed down to American basketball player Brittney Griner for drug smuggling has been filed with the Moscow Regional Court. A date for its consideration has not yet been set, TASS reports.
The trial of the center of the US team, one of the best basketball players in the world, Brittney Griner, began on July 1, and already on August 4, the Khimki City Court delivered its verdict.
Greiner received nine years in a penal colony and a fine of 1 million rubles for smuggling hash oil.
The athlete with the US team won the 2014 World Cup in Turkey, the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, the 2018 World Cup in Spain and the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Before her arrest, she played for the UMMC team from Yekaterinburg.
