Russell Explains His Weak Performance in Qualifying Segment 3 for the Bahrain Grand Prix

Formula-1

Mercedes driver George Russell explained his weak performance in the third qualifying segment of the Bahrain Grand Prix.

The Briton showed the ninth time, and Lewis Hamilton became the fifth, ahead of Russell by six tenths.

“I just tried something different. We only had one set of fresh tires. I attacked on the exit circle from the pits, then went into the first turn – and I just had no grip. I drove a second slower than in the second segment. I expected to be a couple of seconds faster.

Very annoying. I’m glad I tried it – it’s easy to criticize in hindsight. We know that we are not where we want to be, and ninth place is far below the capabilities of the car. We are doing everything we can to get closer to Ferrari and Red Bull. Not perfect, but the race is tomorrow,” Russell is quoted as saying by Motorsport Week.

The main race will take place tomorrow, March 20. Beginning at 18:00 Moscow time.
