Zenit head coach Javier Pascual commented on the defeat from Real Madrid (64:85) in the Euroleague regular season match.
“Congratulations to Real Madrid on the win, they were much better than us. In the first 20 minutes we played on an equal footing, but after a few free throws that we didn’t score, the hosts managed to take the lead. We were not as efficient as we would like. It is a reality that we cannot compete with Real Madrid at the moment.
To play at the level that Real Madrid plays at, you need to have a full squad. We didn’t have 5 people today. This is not an excuse, this is a statement of fact. We continue to go in 4th place and prepare to play against the next opponent, ”the Zenit press service quoted Pascual as saying.
The match against Real Madrid was missed by Zenit basketball players Conner Frankamp, Mateusz Ponitka, Arturas Gudaitis, Denis Zakharov and Shabazz Napier.
Zenit is 4th in the Euroleague regular season standings with 14 wins and 8 losses. The team will play the next match in the Euroleague on February 25 against Barcelona.
