The first racket of the world, Russian Daniil Medvedev, said that playing under the flag of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) remains the only opportunity to represent the country and continue his career in the near future.

“Our task is to develop tennis in our countries and around the world, for this we need to play tournaments. At the moment, the only way to continue is to compete under the flag of the organization, and I will follow this rule. I hope this measure is temporary. I am waiting for the moment when I can return the flag,” Medvedev told RIA Novosti.

On Tuesday, the ATP and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) announced the admission of Russian athletes to the competition in a neutral status. Later, Medvedev and another Russian tennis player, world number 25 Karen Khachanov removed Russian flags from their personal Instagram pages.
