Vice-President of the Russian Tennis Federation Alexei Selivanenko, in a conversation with SE, reacted to defeat of Aslan Karatsev in the first round of the tournament in Monte Carlo to Holger Rune with a score of 6:7 (1:7), 6:4, 3:6.
“Rune — one of those who are being talked about, he is being considered as a potential leader of the next generation. His results in recent tournaments confirm this. In theory, Aslan, of course, could and should have counted on winning, but he could not. This suggests that the next generation is running out. Objectively speaking, Aslan played so well last year that it is not easy for him to confirm this. He started last year and in general the previous year was super-successful. It is clear that it is more difficult to hold positions than to win them, and he needs to try very hard not to go down in the rating, ”Selivanenko told SE correspondent Alexandra Lancetova.
In the second round, 18-year-old Dane Rune will play against Norwegian Kasper Ruud.
