Islanders Russian goaltender Semyon Varlamov could return to Colorado, according to The Fourth Period.

The Avalanche are interested in a deal involving the 33-year-old Russian, whose $5 million a year deal with the Islanders runs until the end of the 2022-23 season, the source said.

It is reported that in the event of a trade, the New York team could receive two draft picks. The deal can use second and third round draft picks, but can also involve first round picks.

Varlamov played for Colorado from 2011 to 2019, after which he moved to the Islanders as an unrestricted free agent.

In the 2021/22 season, Varlamov appeared in 18 Islanders games, conceding an average of 2.90 goals per game and a 91.1 save percentage.
