Coach Andrey Chesnokov, in a conversation with a SE correspondent, reacted to the defeat of Aslan Karatsev in the first round match from Holger Vitus Rune at a tournament in Monte Carlo (6:7 (1:7), 6:4, 3:6).
“Aslan played unevenly. I have seen unforced errors. Maybe it’s because it was the first match. Rune is a good player who needs to be able to beat. He will not make simple mistakes. Rune has a bright future. If Aslan played against Davidovich-Fokin, who went to Djokovic, then it would be more difficult for him. For Aslan, the tournament in Monte Carlo is the first on earth, and it’s not so easy — play on this surface. It’s okay that Aslan lost. The season is just beginning,” Chesnokov told SE.
18-year-old Rune will play in the second round of the tournament against Norwegian Kasper Ruud.
